I just seen a starling go into my storge shed(building)It had a mouth full of stuff ,I couldn't tell what it was but either she has a nest or feeding some babies. I can't beleive I didn't see that till today. Here is the problem..I have no idea what to do.I'm scared to go in there first of all.Do I have my husband kill the babies if any and her if all posible or do I leave her? I sure don't want her to take revenge on my martins that are FINALLY nesting for the first time. Should I leave her be since she has found a place?I don't know if she has babies or not I'm scared to look.Wonder if I distroy her nest and she wants my martin houses? I have not seen one on any my houses yet (knock wood). Please tell me what I should do. I just seen the starling out front picking bird seed. Also I was wondering if starlings nest in the same place? Maybe I should leave her and maybe she wont ever bother the martins.I just don't know what to do.Have any of you had this problem? I just want my martins safe (I have 4 pair for the first year whooo hooo).I don't know much about starlings so I'm so confused as to what to do.When my husband gets home I will have him look and update everyone on if there is babies or just building.Any advice is surely appreciated.

Thanks so much

I don't allow starlings to nest on my property. If you do you will just have to deal with them later. Good Luck. Dennis

Martin Colony History: First started in Gretna, La in 1969 with a small homemade house, have had martins ever since at 2 different homes in Texas

I would try to find the nest, and then try to figure out a way to catch the mother bird and kill it, and then destroy the eggs or babies. It may be best to sneak up on it at night with a light, just reach up and grab it if you can. You probably could do it better without a light if you can reach it.

I have done exactly that at night with sparrows in bluebird boxes. I must admit that there were a few goosebumps when I reached into the sparrow nest without a light at night, but so far, it worked every time. When you catch the mother at night, the sparrows usually leave and never come back when one disappears at night like that.

It sounds scary, but it sure works for me, and then I feel that I helped our native American birds sooo much!
