I am going to install an out door speaker system for dawnsong today if it doesn't rain. How loud should the volume be? I have a 40amp amplifier. Is to large for this project. I have read that if it is to loud and martins come it will scare them. If I control it coming on and going off with my computer and it comes on at 4:30 in the morning while I am sleeping and the birds come, will they be scared away because it is to loud. Before I use this system, I want to know the do's and don'ts so I won't ruin my chances for this to work correctly and draw in martin's. If it is to late in the season for me to attract martin's, should I use this now or not.

Also, I guess I should take down the outdoor speaker after the martin's leave to go south (by about middle of September). Is this correct?

I know that somewhere on this website is exactly what you are looking for.- do's and don'ts for dawnsong.

You really only need a little volume, 40 watts I suspect only 10% on the volume knob. If the martins are around, they will hear it easily and come in and checkit out.
You also only need to play it for an hour or two from must before sunrise.
And only during the "recuritment" season, which is probably until June 15-30, not sure in your area. After that, the birds are fully set in their summer locations.
