Martin Colony History: 22 year landlord, 14 at current residence..offering 9 racks and a homemade T-8 for 166 total cavities. 160 Pair in 2018 Racks consist of a Deluxe 12, AAA 16, Starburst 16, 2 K-18 Series, Super 24, 2 Gemini, Multi-purpose/two trio’s/4gourds and a T-8..Great hobby to be involved in..

Posted a week ago that my numbers seemed lower than this time last year...patience is not my virtue, but tonight at roosting a new group came in as they were confused on what gourd to go in and when the whole colony scattered, the sky was filled with to many to count !! Subs should be coming shortly...might not be to bad after all..we'll see.. :)

Martin Colony History: Started trying to attract purple martins in 2012! It's finally happened in 2017! 5 years!!! ASY male and SY female came May 1st, fledged 5 babies!

Glad they have arrived Tony, all of us needs a lesson on that patient thing! :grin:

I'm starting to think the same here at my location.
The amount of martins that are here now is considerably
lower than this time last year. I had 80 pair last season
but don't look to have that many yet this season.

Yeah Darryl those birds that I had must have been passing through cause it's back to about the same here..I'll be lucky to have the 112 pairs I had last year..that will be the first time ever (11yrs) I've been here that my numbers will decline.. :-( ..something must have happened down south...

Home colony is on track at about the same number as last year at this date. Parsons colony is ahead of last year's pace. But there was a big jump in both during the week of the 14th last year so we will see if it holds through the week.

I'm south of you guys here in Oklahoma. My numbers are definitely lower than last year. I would say about half of what I had last year so far.

Martin Colony History: 2016 - 22 Pair

Yesterday there was a nice increase in ASY arrivals. New female quickly paired up with male who had been protecting cavities. New male arrivals fought for and obtained cavities. This time last year, I had 12 martins. Counted at least 18 come in for the night last night.

2010 Thru 2013 - Moved-Tried to start new colony
2009 - 46 pair, 217 eggs, 178 fledged

Also had some arrivals at the home colony last night. Up to at least 12 pair now and I think I have a couple lone ASY males. nearly full. Last year my home colony filled up with ASY's of both sexes.

did a parsons colony survey at noon and set a new date record high population. 53 on 4-17 is a new high count for this week. 71 is the recent April high. will be interesting to see if we break that. that was set on Aprl 28th last year.
