Congrats Darryl! We're fortunate with the forecast as it appears we have at least a 10-day stretch of mostly highs in the 60s with "maybe" a little rain on Tuesday. I think you'll be OK as our martins have survived MUCH worse years and I don't think you'll need the crickets...YET! I have to travel in your direction for a work event this Tuesday, so please let me know if you need a hand - I'll come on over if you do?!

Darryl, congratulation's on your arrival. I was wondering when Missouri was getting that first report. Hopefully I will see my first arrival in a week or so. Everything is up and nesting material goes in today. Good luck this year.

As of 2018 - 84 cavities offered, max # of pairs hosted - 82.

...and there it is! Woohooo!!! Congratulations, Darryl! I'm hoping we have a good spring for them. We could use some rain here, but hopefully, we're done with the freezing ice & snow!

I trying to get the gourd rack ready today, as I'm sure he will be roosting here
tonight. He keeps going in one gourd over and over. I'm going to put him up
a new one and a nice supply of warm bedding. I don't have any pictures. May be
able to get one later.

Martin Colony History: Started trying to attract purple martins in 2012! It's finally happened in 2017! 5 years!!! ASY male and SY female came May 1st, fledged 5 babies!

Concerned about flying insects for Darryl's martin, but just now saw a big fat fly outside on my window. Just maybe we can have a good spring this year...

The martin that showed up this morning roosted, but not in any of the gourds.
When he showed up this morning he was going in a few of the old gourds that
were hanging. I took t b em down and rep k aced them with new super gourds.
I put some alfalfa flakes in each one. He came in right at dark and landed on a
few of them and looked inside but wouldn't go in. He ended up roosting in one
of the castles. I guess the new gourds messed him up. I'll try to post a pic.

For about three days now I was expecting to see your report. This makes me hopeful that I just might be able to report one here at my place this week. I am also expecting to hear a report from Jeff or Kathy any time. Excited for you and good luck this year.

Hello Keith, You could be seeing an arrival at any time. Mine was earlier than
last year and caught me by surprise. I worked hard most of the day in getting
the new super gourds out, and then he went and roosted in one of the castles.
I guess he didn't like me taking down his old gourd.But it was starting to fall
apart and needed lot's of attention. I hope you get your martins soon and wish
you the best this season.

Rogersville, MO martins back on the map for another year. She arrived @ 12:30pm and quickly chased off the American Kestrel sitting atop the trees a little to close to her home!

She must be a tough gal - giving the Kestrel notice! 8)
I've been outside all day, putting the finishing touches on my owl cage, etc. Only 2 TRES here so far.

Noticed this morning that you have an arrival. Great news!!!! It has been several
years since I have been down in your neck of the woods. I love the scenery down
there. I could adjust to living there quite easily. I used to go down and deer hunt
with my brother in law on his property just south of Norwood. Hope you have a
great purple martin season. I still have just the one lonely male flying round here
as of now.
