Feeding in the snow

The weather here in north Texas has been miserable for martins for a week now. We had a lot of snow this morning until the early afternoon .This weather reminds me of when the Super Bowl was held here a few yrs back. I waited till about four this afternoon to wake the martins up. I know a lot of people flip crickets ,but I flip super worms to mine and they just love them. I have 7 martins at this time and they are doing very well thanks to these flipping sessions we've been having. It just looks very odd to see martins flying around in the snow, very unnatural , they just don't belong in snow.. The weather is going to be bad until Tuesday , but I know these martins are going to make which is big load off my mind ....

I'm very fortunate that my birds are trained , if not they would have perished already . I'm also fortunate that I dont have more birds. I'm sure a lot of martins have died this week all over the south, this weather has been crazy cold for an extended period . The weather is suppose to warm up next week , but also rain WHAT!!! These martins can't catch a break . My birds won't eat eggs and individual birds for what ever reason can be picky . Most will eat crickets , but I thnk they love super worms and I like them too. The worms are bigger than meal worms and are heavier than crickets . Because of this you can fling them very high into the air so that a Martin will always catch it before it hits the ground. You can order super worms just like you order crickets . You can also find them at pet stores . I believe they are more expensive than crickets too, but I also believe they might provide them more nutrition than crickets . I don't know ,but they've done well all these yrs on them...
