It seems the general consensus is white due to its reflective properties of the sun's rays.

Is it acceptable to add trim colors for just general aesthetics or does this difference of color deter the birds acceptance?

Some people add trim colors and doesn't affect the birds one way or another. My personal preference is all white because I think it simply looks better.

dick,

Good question. It makes no diffrerence to the Martins so paint some trim if you think it makes the house look prettier. I wouldn't go overboard though. You want the majority of the house to be white so it will be cooler inside.

What matters most is location. Just be sure the house is sitting in an open area, way far away from large trees yet within 100 ft of your home. (They like being near humans.) Martins are like airplanes. They need plenty of free open space to take off and to land. The easier it is for them to access your site, the bettter they will like your house, painted trim or not.

Best of luck!

Dick. I've seen pictures of houses that were White, with the trim, or the edges of the porches painted Blue, Red, Purple, to suit the owners. They all had PMs on, so I don't think it matters terribly. CUL LOu
