I have a single color band on a martin and don't know where to report it, as it has no silver USFWS band. From experience, the USFWS and bandedbird.org sites will reject this because of lack of silver band.
This green/yellow band on the right leg is on a fairly recent arrival SY female nesting with an ASY. I noticed last weekend that she has a band! This is the first banded martin in my now ten-year old colony!
A picture is attached. I have more. Can someone tell me who could be banding martins with a single band? I presume is is someone here in NE Indiana, near Warsaw in Koscuksco County.
Single yellow/green band on martin in N. IN need help!

Unfortunately, that's almost certainly an illegal band. It has no letters or numbers that would help in tracking the bird. It's very thick/heavy looking, almost like something homemade. It doesn't fit well, either - the gap between band ends could get caught on something.
There are martins being banded with unmarked color bands in CT, but they have a silver federal band on the other leg, and those color bands are much thinner, lighter, and fit the birds better.
A landlord may have bought bands for cage birds, or made their own bands - if it's possible to capture her (after her eggs hatch) and remove the band, that would be a good idea, to avoid any problems and potential injury to the bird. I'm not sure what would be best way to remove that band - cut it, probably.
