This past Friday we discovered that we have 22 eggs in four nests. There are 5 in two nests and 6 in two nests. One gourd has a completed nest, but as of today still did not have eggs. One gourd is occupied but has no nest. Exciting to say the least.
We also discovered that we have 2 more subbie pairs. Two pair in the Coates watersedge and 2 in the Heath. We also discovered that we have an unattached ASY male that showed up this past week. He is trying to get the already taken subbie females to mate, but the subbie males constantly run him off. This guy must have raging hormones, because all he does is fly from the gourds to the other 2 houses and harrass the subbies. Hope more subbies are coming in next week and he finds a mate!
The bluebirds are on their 2nd clutch with 5 eggs in their nest.
Lanell,
What great news! I was thinking about you earlier today and wondering how it was going.
What about at home? Did the visiting birds stay?
I am so happy for you. You deserve this after all the hard work, patience and yes, probably even tears shed, during the disappointments. Congratulations.
Sharon
