I have tried to see some of the attachment details of the cables but haven't found one yet that is clear. It appears on the ones I have looked at that it is only one cable,if thats the case doesn't the house tend to bind on the pole when raising and/or lowering.
It has also been stated that one should be careful to keep the same orientation of the house in respect to its position prior to lowering. How is this position maintained when the house is fully raised, or is getting it close good enough??In other words what keeps it from rotating on the pole?

Raise/Lower Cable

Dick. Yes, the house will bind on the pole as it is raising. Some when it's being lowered, but not too much. Most of the houses I believe only have one cable. That's the way my North Star is, but it's on a 4x4 wooden square pole. Therefore, the apartments are always the same way. My gourd rack is also on a square pole, but I have double cables on it. I'm not certain how exact one has to be with getting them the same direction, but I'd imagine you'd need to be fairly close. The way it works out, is as it is raised, the cable going through the pulley lines the houses/gourds up. CUL Lou

Dick,
My houses and gourd rack have a roll pin that's about an inch longer than the dia. of the pole located very near the top of the pole. The pipe center piece of the house/gourd rack has a V cut into each side at the top which locks it into position on the roll pins.
The only time I've had trouble with binding was when the wind slightly bent a pole.
Hope this helps,
Frank

same here,
I have a trio castle, winch and pulley system. There is a roll pin inserted through the pole at the top. The short pipe that is attached to the inside house portion and that slides up and down the actual pole. It has a notch in the top of short pipe that will slip into the roll pin. Then when lifted all the way up, you can feel the notch and roll pin lock together. The roll pin is usually mounted inside the roof area on pole. This way you can put a rain shield with perching rods or what ever on top. When the house is @ full height it stops just under this shield.
It only has a little problem locking in when the wind is blowing pretty good. With porch dividers it catches a little more air. Just lower it a foot or two then up again. The alignment of the cable will turn it back around a little. Just need to have the winch cable aligned, so when you crank up it locks the house in the direction you want it. I really haven't had any binding problems as of yet.
I am not sure if a square pole would need to lock in. Just maybe some kind of stop? Not sure as all my poles are round..
Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but it is still fun to see how many of my words spell check hits on....
Good luck, Dick
