Greetings,
I live in So. MD and I'm a new to PMs trying in my 2nd year to attract them. No joy so far. I'm wondering if my large oak tree is a problem. Here's my set-up:
- 6 Super Gourds on a Deluxe Gourd Rack
- Dawn Song via "Song Bird Magnet"
- 1 PM Decoy
- Location: In my 1ac field, 55' from outter most branch of ths massive oak tree and 75' from the house (see photo). I have a pair of nesting Bluebirds ~ 100' away.

Appreciate any wisdom. Thx!
Dave

Hi Dave,

We cannot access your picture. Is it too large?

Sounds like open flyways on three sides, so I think you are okay. Most of us don't have perfect sites. One rule of thumb for tree distance -- if the tree fell would it touch the house. Also, if it's a two-sided house, turn it so the flyways are parallel to the tree, not one side facing into the tree.

Dave ,
Welcome to the forum ,we are glad to have you. Sounds like from what you have told us that you are ready to attract martins, to help you try this get and play The Dawnsong , also get you a few decoys to place on your housing...both of these are great Martin attracting tools to have, leave the decoy's on your housing all year every year, they help also in Hawk/Owl attacks giving the martins a chance for escape, I have trees not 25ft from my martin housing and i still get martins every year so you should also.
Good luck and keep us posted on your situation there.
