Home from work a little early today and to my surprise, I have 4 nests with eggs. That is about 11 days earlier than last year. Lots of nest building has been underway so I expect a lot more action in the coming days.
Trying since 2006, started hosting in 2012
T14 with 4 THG and 4 modified SG's
Gourd rack with 3 TVG's and 3 modified SG's

Martin Colony History: Erected 1st house in 1997. Birds were checking it out before Mike got down from the ladder. Six cavities had a little colony 1st year. Grown to 88 cavities all gourds with near 100% occupancy. Most important factor for success is rain = bugs.

WOW!!! Good for you! In E. TX we have been weeks behind. Last year (2013) our first egg was 04/15/13. This year (2014) 04/25/14 was our first egg.

Martin Colony History: The 1972 St. Agnes flood wiped out all the Martins in my area. One day, in 1997-98, 5 or 6 Martins landed on the power wires crossing my back yard. I had no house for them. They kept coming back day after day. We got a martin house a few weeks later & they have been coming back every year since. I average 12-15 pair per year.

Lots of nest building at my site last few days. I expect eggs soon too :).

I don't expect eggs until around memorial day. I will do my second weekly nest check next Friday I have a couple with leaves in there today but expect a lot more activity next weekend.

2019 I have 148 openings now
2016 100 pairs 600 babies fledged added another t-14 and have 126 openings now
2015 Jun 24 360 babies and 58 eggs also found one that had died
2017 632 babies 11died and 20 were killed by hawks
2015 74 pairs and 9 eggs 5/14
