Updated Photo Of Deluxe Rack With 18 Troyer Horizontal Gourds
Here is a new photo of my Deluxe Rack with 18 round hole Troyer horizontal gourds and cane pole perches. This rack is filling up with mainly SY pairs, but two paired ASY males are in residence, too. The cane pole perches have been a huge hit with the martins and they can now sit near their gourds. Without the added perches, the martins often would just flutter around the lower tiers or sit on top on the gourds. The perches which extend out from the gourds give the SY males in particular a ?safe? place to sit as they size up a possible nest site. Then they can move to the gourd. SY males are initially timid and subordinate to all ASY males. Next year, I plan to use many more Troyer round hole horizontals in my colony.
Great Lookin Rack Steve, I Just love it!!!!!
Useing my S&S repeating trap for a number of year's now i don't have the S&S problems anymore....not to say that they won't show up here again but in watchin' my colony i haven't seen any sparrow's at all here at my site and only a couple of starling fly by's not even stayin to look around , my point is this , I like the troyers so much that i may try a few Round hole Troyer's next year to add w/ my already sreh troyer's that i have in place .Thanks for the pic & update steve we appreciate it.

Wishing everyone a Great Martin Year
Happy Martining for 2022 to everyone,
I am glad you have your starling/sparrow problem pretty much under control. Yes, you can try some Troyer round hole horizontals and see what happens. If necessary, you can always convert back to srehs since your martins readily use them.
I am 100 % round hole in my personal colony and starling free. We do use all srehs in our satellite martin colonies since starlings are more of an issue around Shreveport and other more urban/suburban locations.
