As you know this is my first year and here is what I have done/am doing, so far to try to attract my first colony. I started with an S&K twelve unit house. I modified to six units 12x6. I then added 4 Big Bo gourds underneath. All were SREH but after reading several threads lately I opened two of Big Bo's to round holes. I also two days ago added dine straw to all of the units. I also have an alarm clock radio that plays dawnsongs from 4AM to about 6:45 AM. Several weeks ago I saw a few ASY females in the area of my house but have not seen any activity lately. So far I have not had any problem with S&S. I see a few sparrows but they do not seem to be bothering the house at all. Before I put in the pine straw there was a few droppings on the house but no sign at all of any kind of nesting material from any species. I am in a good location so it is just a waiting game now. Hopefully some youngens will be in the area soon looking for a nice place to stay. I think I have all of the basics covered any other recommendations for me to help get started?

Sounds like you are ready to roll! Just about everything I did. Had 7 pair last year. So far this year Just one pair, but assuming more to follow? I added a couple decoy's last year. I think that really brought them in for the "touchdown". I also splattered just a little mud around bottom of entrance, gives it that lived in feel  It sounds like you have done your home work. They would probably be lucky to have a Land Lord like you! 8)

Good luck Flyin-Lowe!

Mooreland is a few miles north east of New Castle, between New Castle and Muncie. I have seen a few martins in the area the last couple weeks but nothing real close. Had some over a field within a few hunsdred yards of the house but nothing really close. I try to check some of the other colonys that I see but have not seen anything in this area. I was gonna put some mud the other day when I added the pine straw but it hadn't rained for several days and I was in a hurry, hopefully I can do that this weekend.
