am curious about keeping starlings out of the martin houses....

other than tearing their nests out, shooting them with bb's, pelets, shotgun, 50 cal. machine gun or a 105 MM howitzer....what can you do??.....

Can we get NORAD involved and maybe get them to loan me an ICBM??

*sigh*

66mustang - You must have round holes for your entries. Try putting shrehs in place of the round holes. Hopefully this will keep the starlings out.

Hope you have success.

Starling Resistant Entry Holes (SREH)

Read all about them in the archives:
http://purplemartin.org/forumarchives/archives.html

You can make them yourself, converting your existing housing.
Or, you may be able to buy replacement SREH doors from your martin house manufacturer.

Go to the PMCA shop and look in the Martin Housing and Gourd Housing sections to see examples of SREH:

This is my starling story (second post):
http://purplemartin.org/forumarchives/a ... Damage.htm

I've been all SREH for 6 seasons now and NO STARLINGS have entered!

Good luck, Mary

66_Mustang,
Welcome to the forum, as being a PM Landlord's most of us have all had your same problem at one time or another, to start with if you have all round hole entrances on all of your housing either buy new door's with sreh/Crescent entrances or convert the old door's to SREH's/Crescents (Starling Resistant Entrance Holes) , this will not allow starling to enter most of the time and keeps your Martins & Egg's safe and protected , another thing you can do is buy you some traps, pmca sells a really good S&S Trap that i highly reccommend, it works year round for you and if you place it by a tree the martins won't go near it so you don't ever have to worry about accidently trapping any martins by Mistake, Go to the pmca main page and look under shop/traps and take a look around they have a variety of traps, some traps that fit right inside your housing, there are ground traps, etc,etc....but the best investment in my opinion is the S&S trap.I hope this info give's you some help.
