I am nearing completion of refurbishing an older house. I have converted it to 6 suites as per instructions on this web site. I have also converted the 6 openings to SREH, and plugged the rest. I am also going to use plastic milk jug bottoms for the nesting compartments as per a posting last year. I also will add 5/8 perching poles The mirrors also sound interesting. Incorporating all the latest technology. Ha Ha

My question pertains to installing the lanyard. It has a washer on one end.
The pulley is on the end of the pole. I see where the holes for the pipe in the house have openings for the lanyard. Does the washer end go on the house bottom and up thru the pulley and then down to the tiedown on the lower pole?

I also see an article in the archives for adding plywood to quite down the raising and lowering of the house. Is this really necessary?

Thanks in advance.

Joe,

The washer and the knot on the rope keep it from pulling thru the slot in the bottom of the house. If you go to Google and enter "MSS-12 pdf" (without the quotes), you can find the site to download the instruction sheet which tells how to route the rope.

You can add the wood if the screeching noise from lowering/raising the house bothers you. Some folks wax or otherwise lubricate the pole.
