Hello Everyone,
I sure hope you all are doing well and your martin season is well too!
I wanted to give an update on the ASY male that lost his mate last week!
I did what Emil, Victor Stoll, and some other's told me to do and that is to take out the eggs! So I did this morning around 11:00 A.M. as I waited to see if maybe she did show back up but didn't see her! Then when I took out the eggs he came back to check on the gourd and I only saw him once this morning, he went in and out a couple of times and then hung around until a SY female showed up and flew right by him! He went in and out of the gourd chirping and flirting again at her and she went in with him for about 10 minutes!! Then she flew off and he hung around and waited for her to come back but she didn't! He stayed around for about 2 hours and was back into trying to get another female again! So maybe he was waiting for me to take them out! But it ended with good results! But I left for the day and came back around 5:30 P.M. to see if he came back to roost but didn't see him! I wonder why? Oh well! I sure hope he comes back tomorrow and gets another female!
Now to the exciting part of the day around 6:00 P.M. I did a nest check while they were all out feeding and came up with 67 eggs!!! WOW! One nest had 7 eggs in it and is an ASY pair in a Natureline gourd! I have two nests with no eggs yet and one nest with four eggs and she is not done yet! So the total will go up in a week or two! So I'm excited!!! I can't hide it!!! Thanks and hope everyone is doing good! John!
