My first Martin showed up this morning in Northwest Arkansas ( thirty miles south of Branson, MO).
Two weeks earlier than last year and four weeks ahead of the three years before that.
Get ready you Landlords up in MO.

Tom,

That is awesome that you are beginning to see martins. I did notice they are really on the move now. It won't be long and they will be trekking through the midwest.

Good luck with your martins. I hope you have a successful year.

YIKES! Tell them to slow down. I think I will start knotting tiny coats for the martins if they show up in the snow.
ImageMite control, heat venting, predator protection and additional feeding during bad weather add up to success.

Geeez, I hope not! I think this temporary warm weather is giving them some false sense of security. Last year they were here on 3/18, I think and I had to supplement-feed them through the first week of May - 7 weeks!!! I still lost 10, but by the time the last of the snow melted and the temps warmed up, my colony was almost full and the subbies were here too.

The only advantage of that was that the majority of the eggs were laid close to the same dates and nest checks were a bit easier.
