Smith Elementary in Richmond, Texas had a load of Purple Martins touchdown into our garden today around noon. We weren't even ready for them. I had the gourd rack down because I had intended to paint the gourds when we returned the new rebuilt house to school.
The martins didn't even wait for me to put up the rack and were already moved in by the time the rack made it to the top.
I estimated that there were about 12 martins.

- Martin Colony History: First started in Gretna, La in 1969 with a small homemade house, have had martins ever since at 2 different homes in Texas
Congrats to you and your students! We have about 30 estimated, can't count them. I wish that I could train them to fly in groups of 5, or in a single file circle.
