I have a PA speaker I plan on playing with a little to make it a wireless unit that will receive a Bluetooth signal from a laptop in my home.

I have most of the components and have identified the remaining components that would be needed, but I have one concern about this type of set up.

Knowing it will be wireless, the PA speaker will be mounted to a water tight box. In the box will be a small amplifier and a Bluetooth receiver, along with a rechargeable 12V battery. I believe I will purchase two of these batteries and cycle them out on the unit, as the PA assembly will be mounting on the T-14 so It can be raised and lowered.

The concern is battery life. I plan to play from maybe 4am-7am, which after that the batter drain will be minimal. Worse case scenario would be the battery only lasts one or two days.

With my inexperience with purple martins I don't know if lowering the house daily or every other day (evening before dark) during the time I am trying to attract a colony does more harm than good.

I could locate it on top of my kids play ground which is about 20 feet from where the pole will be to eliminate the need to raise and lower for battery swaps.

Andy, the set up you describe should work fine. Of course battery life will depend on a lot of variables, but I'm sure that you can work around that.
As for the location on your kid's play set, that's about the same distance I've always had from my speaker to the first house. I only run mine until the first group shows up and then I shut it down.
Good luck with bringing them in.

Andy,

One other thing to think about. It is really easy to bury a low voltage lighting cable under the sod, after a rain has made the ground soft. All you need to do is put a slit in the sod, with a staight bladed spade, and shove the cable in with a piece of lath. Run this to your nearest power source, attach to your power adapter, and no battery headache.

My setup goes from desktop PC to amp to speaker easy peasey.

Dave is there a way to program my PC to come on at 4:30 AM and go off at 7 AM. I don't know a lot about programming my PC and any help would be welcome.

Thanks Dale
