Have been seeing green leaves carried to the nests lately so did our first nest check yesterday. Two nests with one egg each. This is the earliest ever for us. Only the fifth time in 15 years for first eggs in April. Three weeks earlier than last year. The earliest we have ever had eggs before this was in 2004 with the first egg laid April 24th.
Of course that means the martins will start leaving a lot earlier. Sure hate to think about that!

Frank,
Great news. Sounds as if you keep very good records. You are right about them leaving earlier. As happy as we are to see them successfully fledging young, we hate to see them go as well. Our birds here will be leaving around late June. The time really seems to pass faster once the egg laying begins. This is a very exciting time of the season for my 8yr old daughter as well as myself as we get to see the young progress to fledglings.
Good Luck,
Rick
