I will be going out of town for a week and was wondering what to do? I'm having HOSP problems. I have been tearing out nest every evening for 2 weeks now. I'm thinking of closing up the house while I'm gone to keep them out. I don't plan on keeping it closed, just while I'm not able to tear out HOSP nest. Should I or not? Thanks for your feedback..

If you don't have nesting martins, fine. Anyone with nesting birds should not close 'extra' rooms, since that will just funnel the HOSP into martins' compartments.

Before next season, you can work on a plan to control HOSP with trapping and/or shooting. Nest removal really does not help much. We'll have a good article on HOSP control in the summer issue of the Update, too.

Thanks Louise, I have a 16 s&k barn thats been modified. There is no martins occupying any compartments. Have had visitors. I live in an area were i cant shoot them, trapping is my only option. I'm working on that.
