I have not had so many so late in the season. Group of 10-15 came in last night to roost. Easy to tell new birds cause they try to get in to my older double gourds that have black clean out ports. They think they are holes and hang on to the side! My residents were on guard til everybody settled down.
They moved on this morning.

Nice to hear Peggy, cause we are way down in numbers here in Alberta. Thanks for the report, anyone else seeing migrating Martins lately?

I can't find Tolar TX on my little map, what part of Texas do you live?

- Martin Colony History: The 1972 St. Agnes flood wiped out all the Martins in my area. One day, in 1997-98, 5 or 6 Martins landed on the power wires crossing my back yard. I had no house for them. They kept coming back day after day. We got a martin house a few weeks later & they have been coming back every year since. I average 12-15 pair per year.

It certainly is an odd year. My feeders are still covered with Pine Siskins which should be moving by now. I have a feeling you'll start seeing more birds soon. 90's here today, maybe the heat will get them in gear!

Definitely a strange year.
I had a full rack last year so it's been quite calm here for the most part with the established early arrivals building nests, laying eggs and sitting on them.
The last 4 or 5 days have seen lots of arrivals and pass throughs.
Looks like s subbie wave as they are stirring it up on the main rack.
I have had 3 or 4 more gourds claimed on the new rack and still have room for 8 to 10 pair out of 40 gourds.
I have been spending time at out stock tank where they come to drink and have even noticed lots of battles almost to the ground down there 1/4 mile from the colony.
I'm guessing the subbies, being the lazy kids they are, have waited out most of the bad weather and decided it's time to move it!

They are still migrating . I had about 100 or so this evening feeding high with my martins and they were heading north at dusk.
