I just put an guard up today on my trio castle while my birds were out feasting on bugs.I still dont have any luck posting photos so ill try to describe it a little... I made it out of chicken wire and aluminum rods riveted to the side of the house.the distance between the wire cage and the porch is about 10 in.My main concern is that will the martins be able to hop or hover in that space between the cage and the porch.I want to show my pictures but i get a error saying my picture file is too big...

to show photos, you must make your photo smaller. To do that, you may try to edit the photo and reduce the siae of it
there is another option, to use photobucket, then you don't need to resize the photo.
I have no experience with such a large opening between th porch and the wire cage, but I think that it will work. Birds can adapt to many different types of situations.

Johnny,
A 10" gap between the cage and the compartment is good. You will see that the martins learn to quickly hop right through the guard to the compartment, usually without even beating their wings. Glad you placed the guard on your housing. Many landlords lose martins to owls and hawks each year and don't even realize it. - Kent / Mt. Vernon, Arkansas

Hey Johnny , what size are the opening in the chicken wire ? If you are talking about the distance from the wire to the porch is 10" that should be fine ! On some of my racks it is 6" some 10" and some more . Hope this helps .
