What's up with this?

About mid-morning I was on the patio and heard martins very close. I looked over at the PM house which was all the way down and closed. I just hadn't taken it down yet. I was not going to try to attract any martins this year because it has been totally unsuccessful for the past 4 years. Two ASY males were making dives (even with the house all the way down) as if they were looking at the house. So, I opened a couple of holes and put the house back up. They came back about an hour later and did the same thing. Then just a few minutes ago one of them came back, landed for a bit and then took off again.

Would ASYs be looking for a place this late or are they just curious? I guess I will leave the house up and see what happens..

Definitely possible. They may be some ASYs from another nearby site, that came back to find their last year's housing gone for whatever reason.

This may be your year at your home location!

Lanell,
The ASY that I had last season (and think I have again this season) was very late showing up. I just checked my notes and he arrived on April 24 last year. So YES they can show up this late and later. Don't know if he lost his housing last year or what so it could happen to you.
Actually, he was kind of late showing up this year according to the other ASY's that showed up at other sites.
Yes, when you least expect it, miracles do happen :-). I hope this one is for you.

I hope you're right, Sharon. That would be just great. I guess your guy that shows up late is going to be a bird with chronic time problems  Anyway, the important thing is, he came back.
