They may not be Martins, but they are sure cute!

Well, the Cardinals beat the Martins to the eggs AND babies. These three hatched in a bush next to my house the other day. As for the Martins, I've got three pair and a couple of single males at my house and gourd rack, 12 cavities total with expanded compartments. This morning I saw my first SY-M show up on the house checking out a female that is already taken. I then noticed her mate getting very aggressive with the rest of the Martins and chasing them all off. Not a very happy camper. Well, so far better than last year, my first year, with only one successful nesting pair.

Bud,
Your Cardinal family is adorable. Please take pics of them as they mature and post them so we can see the changes. I love Cardinals too but have never found one of their nests. Do you know how old they are when they fledge?

Bud,

I have lots of cardinals in my backyard, but have never come across one of their nests. Please do keep us updated on their progress!

Will do! This is the first Cardinal nest that I have seen too. The nest is very carefully and beautifully built. I know nothing about them so will monitor the nest until they fledge.....Bud
