I noticed late yesterday and most of today, that the PMs are landing on roofs, chimney caps and light poles. They started building nest earlier this week. It also happened last year about the same time. Today, they would sit for 5-10 minutes, fly around for awhile, then back to the roofs.

Anyone else notice this?

Yeah, Chuck, mine have been doing it, too. I'm not sure why. They weren't collecting nesting material or anything. Good observation.

We have a fish cleaning station with a roof over our dock which sits near our colony. Our martins are furiously building their nests are are sitting on the roof of the cleaning station. The parents and fledglings do the same thing later. The fledglings like the roof and will fly there after they attempt a crash landing into their gourd.
