- Martin Colony History: Had a colony many years ago which dwindled over a couple of years and then did not return. Kept trying each year for almost 20 years and finally had a small success in 2011 with two pairs nesting. Colony has grown slowly each year with 22 pairs in 2015. In 2016 my gourd rack of 18 gourds filled up so I added 4 more gourds and then put up a small rack of 6 gourds. All of those were claimed within a few days so I believe I have at least 25 pairs this year.
So very sorry for your loss Tim. Our thoughts are with you and your family.

Tim,
As I offer my condolences for your loss, I also find it so neat to hear of the generations of passion for Purple Martin management passed on in your family - very, VERY cool, and an inspiration for us all to continue that same passion thru our own families, friends, and acquaintences!
Wishing you a very successful 2012 season, filled with fond memories of your Hero!

Sorry for your loss Tim. Ya know, when I lost my dad at 54 years young I had that same hollow feeling that I`m sure you have now. I also felt like I did not want to do any of the things that we did together, but later when I did do thoes things I talked to him just as though he was there and I know he herd me. Good luck Tim.

- Martin Colony History: Erected 1st house in 1997. Birds were checking it out before Mike got down from the ladder. Six cavities had a little colony 1st year. Grown to 88 cavities all gourds with near 100% occupancy. Most important factor for success is rain = bugs.
Hey Tim...
There's a big ole hole in your world. I'm sorry your Father couldn't live on forever. Mine didn't either. My Daddy died on September 2, 2011 at 88 and I don't know how I'm ever gonna get out of this hole. But, they say we will. Life goes on and love goes on and we will all be together again one day.
Christmas won't ever be the same -- will it?? Other people can help a lot - these friends here on the Forum can help a lot -- if you let them...
Here's hoping your New Year will be better than the last.
Hey TonyG...
I see you lost your Dad in September as well. I am so sorry for your loss... my loss... Tim's loss... I hope it's true: one day we will all have the perfect colony to enjoy. In the meantime I gotta take care of my Daddy's colony and mine! Those birds are gonna need my help.
Sincerely,
Laverne
