We have a small pond filled with cattails near our barn, about 100 yards or so from my martin housing. The last two nights there have been about 200 birds roosting in the cattails. I will try to get a closer look tonight, but I could see many martins and also barn swallows last night. I always have red winged blackbirds nesting there, but the birds circling and roosting were not blackbirds. Maybe I can get pictures tonight.

Hi Jspurgin.
I'll bet you did see Martins roosting in your cattails.
There have been a few reports of larger roosts, where the Martins were also roosting in cattails.
The Presque Isle roost in Erie PA, the Upper Spunk Lake roost in MN, and the Big Swan Lake roost in MN, all reported the Martins roosting in cattails.
That is really neat that you have yourself a small roost on your pond!

The dragon flies are really thick down around the barn and pond. That may be part of the attraction
