Have a nice Martin house on a pole as specified, but Sparrows always move in and Martins won't. What can I do to get the Martins to move in????

Eliminate the competition. To establish a new colony, you're going to have to trap and/or shoot any House Sparrow that tries to nest in your Purple Martin housing. Do a search on House Sparrow and you'll find plenty of previous posts about them.

Take care,

nwebster,

What type of house do you have? pmca sell's all kinds of traps. If you have the 6 x 6 comparments, I like the spare-o-trap door. I think it has an opening of 1-3/8" that way the sparrow can get in and yet, to small for the martins to get trapped. I leave a couple of them up on my house, unless I need more rooms. Just want to make sure that the martins won't get trapped. Maybe a repeating trap that is located away from the house. You can go to pmca shop and check to see if they have any that will work for you. If the sparrows get established in the house, they will usually keep the martins out!

If none of them work will work, you may need to invest in a good pellet gun

Good luck!

nwebster,
To help you attract Martins buy you some decoys to place on your housing/also get and play the Dawnsong...both of these really do help you get martins, you can get both of these Items here on this website under "Shop"...I can help you with the dawnsong if you email me, my email address is below, as far as the sparrows go...all of us landlord's just hate them with a passion and it's a must to get rid of them if you want to give your colony a chance of any survival/existance....if you don't you are looking at sheer disaster and Heartbreak.
