Hello,

If the scouts are in your area then it wont hurt to start the dawnsong now. Some of the returning ASYs might be searching for new housing due to failure last year or housing took down. I am going to start my dawnsong on April 1. and i live in iowa.

I would definately play the Dawnsong starting around 4:30 am on even thru the day. When i first started my colony ,the dawnsong along w/ some decoy's helped attract martins to my location for me. The Martins start out very early and if you listen 4:30-5 in the morning you can hear them singing their song High up in the Heavens above.
Good Luck this year.

Don't really know when the best time to start playing it is, but when you start keep it going as much as possible even during the day and evening. It really works. I am new to this madness and it worked for me.

This is my first year to put up gourds and a house for martins and I have a pair of ASY that have been here a week. I was playing the dawnsong early every morning when they showed up and looked in one of my gourds, they left and I did not see them agin that day.The next morning I had to go to town and did not play the dawnsong because it was raining When I got home there was two martins on my gourd rack checking out all my gourds They are still here. I have not played the dawnsong anymore. Do I need to keep playing the dawnsong???? Henry

Thank You For your input. I am planing on useing decoys as well, just waiting for them to come from PMCA. Will probably put them on next weekend and start play the song if they come this week. You said during the day too?

I am a newbee too. Reading and listening, to opinion, it still seems that the most effective time, to play Dawnsong, is 4 AM to 6AM eastern time. That covers the namesake, of the recorded birds and the instructions or comments, of many, who have responded, to this question.
My earliest expected arrival, of Scouts, is about April 1st. I set my computer up to run Dawnsong the two hours into dawn begining April 5th. I believe the attraction decoy music Dawnsong is mimicing an active colony at dawn. When I get birds on or investigating I shall tune it down to a wisper if I am up and see them come. Until such time I am set to send the signals as far across the valley as the equipment can send it.
