There are so many fires burning all across Texas. We are safe here, but had several fires burning within 8 to 15 miles of us since last Thursday. We lost a firefighter from our town and a lady in our church escaped with her dog and the clothes on her back. Possom Kingdom Complex fire is the largest I believe, as of this morning. Just this fire has burned 149,000 acres in 4 counties. The winds have shifted and so different communities have to evacuate. The smell of smoke is so strong this morning here. I've had a late start to the season. Finally had two pair decided to build. Yesterday another pair showed up. Couldn't help but wonder if they are misplaced from the fires. The greatest tragedy is always loss of life, and homes, but I'm sad to hear about the loss of livestock too. Not sure if there were purple martin landlords living in these areas, but if so my heart goes out to you. Reports of 149 homes burned and 1 church in that area. Please join me in praying for rain. Texas is so dry. The storms around Dallas/Ft Worth didn't bring any relief to us.

Hi Donna. I agree the fires are terrible and speading so fast. We didn't get much rain last night, but we are thankful for the little we did. I too am praying for rain to help the courageous firefighters. I pray for all the families who have lost their homes and the wildlife that has been misplaced or taken.

Martin Colony History: Erected 1st house in 1997. Birds were checking it out before Mike got down from the ladder. Six cavities had a little colony 1st year. Grown to 88 cavities all gourds with near 100% occupancy. Most important factor for success is rain = bugs.

Me, too...

...and may God Bless and keep every living creature - man and beast...

Sincerely,
Laverne

P.S. - I'm getting out the head-dress and practicing my rain dance.
Sincerely,
Laverne
