ASY female came in around 11:30 AM today. She went to the Trio on my new MPP. I have changed to sreh's so this is new for her. I use Conley II plates with S&K porches cut down so doors will open. Hope this works. I have some crescent doors if they don't. I had both round holes and sreh's last year and all were taken. I have all sreh's this year on 32 cavities. Some skiny starlings have been hanging around. I can't tell if they have entered either the houses or gourds yet. May have to wait until they nest in order to trap. I'll get them one way or another.

- Martin Colony History: Had a colony many years ago which dwindled over a couple of years and then did not return. Kept trying each year for almost 20 years and finally had a small success in 2011 with two pairs nesting. Colony has grown slowly each year with 22 pairs in 2015. In 2016 my gourd rack of 18 gourds filled up so I added 4 more gourds and then put up a small rack of 6 gourds. All of those were claimed within a few days so I believe I have at least 25 pairs this year.
Congratulations Lewis! It sounds like you are set up for a lot of PM's. Best of Luck for a great season.

Thanks Don. I hope you have a good season. I have traveled up through the Shenandoah, beautiful country. Hope I can visit the tidewater. Martins are passing through Georgia. Sending some your way.

Lewis --
I was just wondering about something. The first report in Georgia was on Jan. the 8th. Now your report is Feb. 24th. That's about seven weeks.
Could your arrival be a subadult, since it is six to seven behind the first arrival? Just wondering up here in Ohio

Lewis,
I wouldn't be overly concerned about having to change from Conley IIs back to crescent. I put up THGs with Conley II entrances last year, and the Martins slick right thru them like nothing...much easier than thru the crescents. However, watch those skinny starlings - I had one get in last year, gave her time to build the nest and get comfortable (she was too skittish the first few days I stuck my .22 barrel out the back door), then I took her out on day 3 of nest building when she was sitting comfortably between 3 Martins on top of my Goliad.
Haven't had another one enter since. Conley IIs were all occupied last year, while I had crescent entrances from year one still available.
Great season to you Lewis!
Jeff

Dave,
I am sure this was an adult female. I am in north Georgia and Feb. 24 is about the average time for martins to return in this area. We will not get sub adults until April.
Hope you have good luck this season.
