This year was a total success no sparrows no starlings plenty of bugs and great weather.
I fledged 90 young.
They must like it because about a third of them have been returning every evening. The last fledge was over 2 weeks ago. During the day I can look up and usually spot a few flying. I take a walk and I see them sitting on my neighbors TV antenna. Is this great or what?
They are still returning!
This year was a success for me also. The last of my 33 young fledged july 14 many stayed in the housing at night until july 30. But many of the birds spend the first two or three hours each morning at the house and gourds. And I see birds flying over during the day.
I believe, this is because I do not let any other birds near my martin housing. I have owl guards and electric for my pole guards.
I treated all my compartments with sevin every two weeks, and I still do this.
Joe your martins must feel safe and comfortable at your housing or they would not be there.
You must be a good martin landlord
Good luck to all Jerry

Better to have a gun and not need it.
Than need one and don't have it.

Still fledging in Leduc, Alberta. This year so far out of 28 compartments, 114 eggs, 89 hatch and 70 fledge and counting. I am up from last year so I will try 2 new T-14 and add 8 Bo-11,s. I have had no problems with Starlings as using SREH's but Sparrows are constant problem until about the middle of July. I think it is time to replace inferior housing. Congrats on your Martin success for the year.
