Input and suggestions, I have added a speaker to my gourd rack. It is an outdoor type speaker that is aimed straight up. I bought a new 200 watt amplifier and a new CD player...if this doesn't get them to check out my site ... nothing will. Oh, I did have a ASY male come by this morning and then again this afternoon. He actually landed this afternoon for just a short time. I have included a picture so you can see the speaker and how I installed it.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention one thing...the neighbors think I have lost my mind...I just tell them they will thank me one day...lol

Tom Them work great but did you drill a small in it for the rain drain out.Tony

Tom, don't feel too bad. My neighbors and my family thinks I have lost it. Especially after last weekend standing in the freezing cold and wind flipping crickets for hours. I just tell them "you just don't get it"

Yes, I drilled two 3/8 holes in the lower part of the speaker for the rain to run out.

P.S. I had 3 more visitors late this afternoon. Didn't hang around long but they came ...!

That is the exact same way I started my colony, the sound is way up there already and they can locate it. Just start playing it early and don't give up. The first year I only had one pair but I keep picking up more birds every year. GOOD LUCK

Hey Tom,

I too am probably the talk of the neighborhood with my 'fake bird sounds and plastic fake birds'. I don't care anymore.

You could set up a hidden camera and submit it for money to one of those shows like AFV - see how many folks look around for the birds. Make it work for you.

Now here is just a little tidbit of information regarding your professional PA system. The speaker needs a hole all the way in the rear to drain out the rain. I assume you got the speaker from Radio Shack. I am using the same speaker. I just don't have 1000 KW driving it....

I use a computer amplifier / computer / Windows Scheduler to start and kill the Windows Media Player.

If you have Owl's in your area you might want to leave the speaker set up for the season even after you attract martins. I play music through my powerhorn every night during the martin season hoping to make it more difficult for Owl's to locate nesting martins.

yes. the upper part (where you drilled) is not sealed from the bottom part, even though it might look like it. So the speaker will fill with water until it reaches the hole you made. (about 2 inches or so)
