Hi everyone,
I was just wondering if there are any martin landlords in my neck of the woods. I live in Woodbridge Va. just outside of Washington D.C..

Nanette,

If you haven't already done this, you could try looking at the Scout Reports from Virginia for 2005 (and earlier years). For 2005, I didn't see any from towns/cities that I knew were close to you, but you would know them better than I do.

I'm just a bit west of you in Catlett. a mile into Fauquier county from the Prince William line. There are long-established colonies on the Mennonite farms near me. I managed to start a small colony in 2005, my third year trying.

Hi Tree,
I found Catlett on the map! I didn't realize that there were Mennonite farms so near to me. I knew there had to be martins in the area because I got 1 martin pair my first year in 2004 before I knew to use the Dawn
Song tape. I just have not seen ANY martin houses in my area except the 2 Trios at the nearby park. Perhaps I got their overflow. Last year after adding and modifying housing I got 12 pairs. This year I am adding a T-14 and 16 gourds. I will still play the Dawn Song tape. Hopefully my neighbors won't figure out that the loud singing isn't coming from the birds! Last year I saw my first scouts on March 15. When did you see yours?
