My first scout showed up on 4/18, around 6:00 PM. He inspected 6 or 8 cavities, stayed the nite, then the weather turned cold and he left. Came back 4/22 and had another adult male with him, they jawed at each other and each spent the nites since in different cavities. But there has not been any females or subs around at all.
I have been disposing of 2-4 starlings each day from a separate nest box trap, they can't defeat the crescent openings.
There have been very few sparrows this spring, trapped the 2 that wanted the martin house, then no more have showed up. I posted earlier about the screech owl in my yard, there are many grey and brown feathers under the owl box. Maybe sparrows are a favorite owl food?
I convinced the tree swallows to use the separate nest boxes and now there are 4 pairs nesting, so I can watch them if the martins don't find mates.
So,,,, if anyone in Ohio has extra females, send them to Union Co., my guys need companions.

Bill,
I hope your fella's find themselves some ladies.
Perhaps they are enjoying the single life.
I have a pair of starlings I need to get rid of too. But they are out foxing me. I can't catch them in my trap and whenever they see me come out of the house they take off. I will win though! ha ha.
Good Luck!
