Time to celebrate, Katy, TX area! I had my backdoor open enjoying the cool weather and suddenly I hear a lovely familiar sound!!!!!!! Yep, dropped my mop and ran outside and there he was, soaring above. We've had a late start getting houses cleaned, etc and they were still down. Lo and behold, my husband came outside to raise the 1 of 4 houses and the martin was on it before my husband could tie the rope! He musta been really tired! Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings us!

Congrats! I haven't heard a peep yet. Although, my martins tend to take a later flight, around the 12-15th of Feb. Hope none of them had trouble with the hurricanes last Fall. Good thing they are not here yet, as I have the houses down for heat insulating coatings.
I'm a "nestcamaholic" Is 18 hours a day a bad thing? (I have 2 this year, luckily I have 2 eyes!)

Congratulations Carolyn! I am still waiting here in Cypress but I am okay if they until this cold snap is over.

I had a scout flying over my colony, up about 300 ft at 5PM and then again just before dark, while I was filling up the housing and gourds with nesting material yesterday. None came to land on the housing. Hope the cold weather doesn't effect them again this year!

Thanks all for the congrats! I'm a bit confused though, the martins are going to the 2nd oldest house we put up. In years before, they went to the 1st house, which would be the oldest martins. Have I totally confused all of you? What I'm trying to figure out is I always thought the older martins would arrive first and go back to the house they claimed the previous years. Right or wrong?
