What are the best ways and what types of guards can I attach to my T-14?
I am ordering and installing 12 owl guards for my super gourds. I lost aprox. 12 young and 1 adult to a Great Horned last year and am determined to stop this from happening this year!!

Martin Colony History: First started in Gretna, La in 1969 with a small homemade house, have had martins ever since at 2 different homes in Texas

Could you wrap the house with 2inches x 4inches fence wire, and the martins zip thru it after they become used to it....

Another option is to place a lot of dowels that may make it harder for the owl to get near the entrances....

PMCA used to sell owl guards for T-14 houses. They were aluminum rods that stood in front of the compartment entrances. I liked them as they looked neat and seemed to work. When I tried to order some for my new T-14 house this year they said that they didn't carry them anymore. PMCA suggested attaching dowling to the porches in the same way. It would be great to be able to find the aluminum ones again.

Martin Colony History: 1st birds 1990. 1 12 room metal house, colony started.
current 2 tr14s, 1 tr18, and 56 gourds, usually average @ 70 pair. 102 rooms available.
above mounted on 4 structures..

perhaps these pics will help, new box for this year, after cutting the porches I clamped them together and drilled them 1/2 inch for hardwood dowels. The rods could be pre drilled for brad nails and nailed on or clamped.

Thanks for the pictures. I intend to put in the "bars" this week. The colony usually shows up around 3/15, so I better hurry!

Thanks again,

I use one 3/8" diameter aluminum rod (which I buy at the local welding supply place) and run it the length of each unit, screwed on the front edge of the porches......no maintenace required, and actually looks nice....
