Carpet tack strips for pretetor guard

Hey folks! This is not my idea but I had read some were that using carpet tack strips at the base off the pole running up for a couple of feet works good as a predator guard. I would think a snake would not be able to constrict up such a pointed object, What do think!

Greg,
I used them the last 4 to 5 years at my colony in Wylie and never had any problems with snakes or anything else. Now that is no guarantee that they will work but either they worked for me or there weren't any snakes in my yard looking for a martin snack. I would say to keep them 2 to 3 feet in length and attached 4 of them around the bottom of your pole. The nails are angled so stagger each strip so that all the nails don't point in the same direction. I used tie wraps to secure them to the pole.
In another similar thread, someone pointed out that these carpet tack strips are potentially dangerous if young kids are playing around the pole and I agree. Be careful and good luck,
Dale
