As of about 10:30 this morning, I now have a baby Barn Swallow! One of the three eggs hatched today, right on schedule. The first of the 3 eggs was laid on June 1st and the incubation period for Barn Swallows eggs is 15 days. The other two eggs, if not already hatched will hatch in the next day or two.

So I decided it would be nice to watch the activity going on here as the parent Barn Swallows feed these young ones until they fledge. So I connected my SwallowCam to Camera 1 on PurpleMartinTV. To see this NestCam go here:

Then I switched the Purple Martin House #1 NestCam over to Camera 2 on PurpleMartinTV. You can view this lively group of six (6) Martin nestlings here:

Since I switched the NestCam the caption is not quite correct, so just ignore it.

There really isn't much to watch in Gourd #1 where the four (4) 21 day-old nestlings are. Most of the time, two of them are in the entrance tunnel and out of view of the camera. So for now, this NestCam is off-line. I may ask Mr. Gillbee to assign a 3rd channel to me so I can broadcast this NestCam also. If/when that happens I'll let y'all know.

Let me know if you have any trouble viewing these, and enjoy!

Gus

p.s. Be SURE to also watch my ColonyCam. You will be able to see some of the nestlings sticking out of the entrance hole, and almost out on the porch! (see how to connect to the ColonyCam below)

Your cams are so fun to watch because they can be coordinated. But I can't imagine what you did with all your spare time.
Your littlr dudes are growing right before my eyes. Oh yeah, we can hear ours all over the yard now too. Fun fun fun.

Yes, I wish others would do the same as you and I do. I have the ColonyCam on in the upper right corner of my 20 inch monitor, then I have the House #1 NestCam set up directly below the ColonyCam. So I can see when an adult comes in with food on the ColonyCam, then wait a bit and watch the excitement inside the housing compartment! It get;s wild and noisy.

Another interesting thing I have noticed is that one or more of the nestlings like to stick their heads out of the entrance hole. But then they won't get out of the way for the adults to come in or leave. I watched the female adult try for a LONG time to get out of the compartment, but couldn't because one of the nestlings was bound and determined to sit part way in and part way out, right at the entrance hole. The female finally forced her way out.

Spare time? What's that? :???:
