They are neat birds (kingbirds), aren't they? The King's cousins, Couch's Kingbirds, are nesting in our front yard this year, in an oak tree. They give a great deal of entertainment when they run off any gull that is foolish enough to get near the nest. They really ride the gulls, like bullriders, while the gulls squirm and cry out in protest

Occasionally the Couch's will try to steal food from the martins but for the most part, it's not a problem - martins get the backyard and kingbirds get the front. We also have brown-crested flycatchers & have been watching the male run off any house sparrows that try to hide in his oak tree.

We are glad the Couch's have not learned to use the B&B feeder - it's already supplying food to martins, mockers, woodpeckers and the flycatchers...
