Today the Albino Martin turned 28 days old and I figured it was about time to go. So a little after 10:00 am, I decided to go out and check it out. There it was sitting on the porch testing its wings, so I knew time for lift off was near. After a pep talk it took off with an escort of about a dozen birds. I have included a series of photos of the lift off procedure.

That is really neat - it looks like he/she is being readily accepted by the other martins? It's interesting that different people have experienced different things with regard to how albino martins are treated. Maybe it has to do with the size of the colony.

This is such an adorable and special little bird; I wish it the best. This must have been a great and special experience to have this little martin with you. I am glad to hear it fledged well and hope it and it's family come back tonight for several nights before they leave. Maybe it will nest at your colony next year. - Martin Colony History: I moved to South Florida, from Delaware, in August of 2015.
I care for a 6 condo Sunset House as well as two Deluxe Gourd Racks, with 24 Chirpynest/Excluder gourds, along a canal in Pompano Beach, Florida.
At Quiet Waters Park, nearby in Deerfield Beach, I care for a Deluxe Gourd Rack with 12 TVG's. I also care for a Deluxe Gourd rack with 12 Excluder gourds with Modified Excluder entrances. I am substituting 6 Chirpynest boxes for 6 of the Conley II entranced gourds in 2026.
At another local park, Tradewinds Park in Coconut Creek, I care for a Trendsetter 12, 5 gourds rack with 60 Excluder gourds with Modified Excluder Entrances and 1 Deluxe Gourd Rack with 12 Troyer Vertical Gourds with Starling Stoppers over the Conley II's to keep out smaller starlings.

I am so glad you were home to take the photos and enjoy the lift off...
What a beautiful bird! My 7 yr. old thinks he/she is beautiful! We have enjoyed the last photos too and my how she has grown!

Your postings and pictures have changed my perception of how an albino is accepted in a martin colony. Great job. The learning process never stops with these wonderful creatures.

As of 2018 - 84 cavities offered, max # of pairs hosted - 82.
When I opened the first picture, my first thought was - WOW, what a beautiful bird! Congratulations, Jerry on a successful lift off!
