I am getting my yard fenced and was wondering if dogs keep starlings away from my setup? I know martins get use to dogs and I bet starlings do to, but am curious. I am having a starling visit my pm houses and its getting scarey. I am on a major hunt for them now but know they can do damage in minutes. Also does the wire sparrow trap attract starlings?

Craig,
Trap & Shoot....perservance pays off big dividends....and soon you won't have those S&S nasties to bother your martins.

adiekaty have pellet gun have killed one, but I work during days and can't be here all the time, so I guess trapping and shooting when able is the way to go. thanks for your replies, kind of hoping that dogs would keep them away though since gone during the days. Starlings are hard to get a good shot at, they know when you are around. Sparrows are easy.

Craig, I have a dog in my yard and the starlings will go to his food bowl and get food. I trap most of my starlings with a nest box trap. I also shoot when I can.
Your dog wont keep those starlings away. I had two at my house yesterday and when I would open the door they would fly away. I just added a fence in my yard for a dog run. It is a three to four foot wooden picket with a gate, kinda of like the white picket ones you see. I have a gate also. It worked out great. I open the gate all the way and place it against the fence and it makes a small blind just large enough to see through the pickets and rest my barrel on (great support). Yesterday I got out there and waited. One of the starlings landed on the house. POP! now he lays under the ground. The next one (starling) shot right into my T-14 (round holes - I know) all he/she did was stick its head out. I had the shot I could see the inside of the house through the hole. I was worried about damage to the T-14 after few minutes I took the shot, I did not want it to get away again. one shot one kill and the pellet just put a small scrape inside the cavity of the T-14. Had to lower the T-14 to get it out of the house and clean up the mess inside the cavity.
I was worried that the Martins would see or smell the blood, but that night I watched a pair go into that cavity.
I hope this did not offend any one.
Peace

I have a yellow Lab and she faithfully brings me the dead starling after I shoot it.
