Has anyone ever had Martins on their roof?

I have never seen this. It is cold here about 51 and windy. I was pulling into the driveway and looked at my roof. Most of my PM are on the roof. I guess they are keeping warm since the heater to house is on.

That is where I put eggs for them but I have never seen that many on my roof, wow.

It must be warmer and blocking some of this terrible wind we are getting.

Yep, pretty common today :x
I'm a "nestcamaholic" Is 18 hours a day a bad thing? (I have 2 this year, luckily I have 2 eyes!)

You need to feed your birds now. They are trying to generate heat from the shingles. please read the receipt for scramble eggs. Buy crickets from your local pet shop immediately. Dave!

The cold and wind is most deff why they are there. You may even have heat coming from the house up there.

yes I have had mine do this when conditions are really bad. I had one on the roof the other day who could barley fly until I tossed him 10 crickets, and a couple of hours later he was up and at em.

Better on the roof than on the ground. :grin: We had a bunch of migrating martins do this last weekend and we threw eggs and crickets on the roof. We threw it real high on the roof because it will of course try to roll down. If you have any chance to feed them please do so. They might/will initially fly off, but when they come back they will take the food if they are hungry. Please keep an eye on them and hopefully it will be warmer and less wind tomorrow. They might still be around in the morning and you might want to feed again. When they get too cold or too weak they might fall to the ground, so please check the ground as well for possible martins. If they just lay there you probably should take them in and feed them.

Just looked on the south side roof of my house and there they were. Poor things it is so very Windy.

Hi thats not a good thing to have martins on a roof that means there stressed and hungry and almost always menas you will find a few expired
its funny how so many southern landlords have never seen that up here in
the north where we often get bouts of cold rain we often see them in the same place. Look at it this way its a red flag your martins are in trouble
and need you!! They will land and rest on large rocks too, not a good thing

Hello,
I just wanted to let you know that 2 of my 8 Martins always sit on the peak of my house. I thought this was common... they are happy and singing so I guessed it was normal. Is the weather better and are they still continuing to sit on the roof? Just wondering... Good Luck, Adrienne
