Hey Scott,

Thanks for sharing pictures of your colony! Looking good, man!

I have three gourds, one Super Gourd and two naturals, with downward pointing PVC tunnels attached to the fronts or inserted partially inside. Two are now occupied by martins. Are you seeing any activity yet with yours?

Thanks for the kind words all. Steve, Iam very pleased with the modifications on the Super Gourds and have you to thank. As you know, I used two different angles 45 degree and 22.5 degree. All the 22.5 angle gourds (4) have been claimed. The 45s have been entered and Iam pretty sure I have a ASY Male staying in one. The porched SGs are filling up. I also had quick takers on the Bo Villa and the Combo Gourd. I will have another 16 gourds going up next week. Iam very pleased to date and look forward to more birds coming. Thanks
Dave

Looking Real nice Scott.

I'm curious about the ladders too, and the reason for the 22.5 and 45 degree angled entrances. Is it for preditor protection? I can see if owls perch on the protruding PVC fitting, the fleeing martin may have a safer escape route, rather than straight into the open talons of the owl! If this is your intent, let us know how it's working!

Hey Bob, Don,
My SGs were getting wet inside. The second reason was owl protection. These tunnels extend inside also. The entries are a 2in pvc pipe thats been cut down and worked with a dremel tool and a peice of cork added for added traction. I have Steve Kroenke to thank for the idea.I think the birds like the seclusion it offers, and it blocks direct sun light keeping it darker inside and they stay dry as a bone now.
