Sure is hard waiting for them. Huh! I still have a good month to wait and I am starting a new colony, I might not even get any. I have had them the last 4 years at my previous site.

Sheryle....I believe they are still 'on wing' since I've seen another ASY fm here this AM. It's plenty cold here but still arriving at my place. I hope the weather guessers are right about the warm-up they claim is coming....tomorow!

Ken & Sheryle--do you have any yet? The last post I saw in our area was Friday and no one had any--so I haven't lost hope. You're really close to me so it's a good sign for me that yours are late. But let everyone know when they arrive!

Hi Holly,
Your right the smoke is horrible. Boy, I can't wait until they put it out.
How do you like your new place? I (we) will definitely have to visit ya'll in Floresville...I have some friends that live there, too.
It seems longer this year...we have had ours around the 14th of Feb...oh well, the waiting is killing me...heehee
Have a Blessed Day,

Sheryle, we would love to see you again. the place is wonderful, quiet, quiet, quiet, except for the coyotes at night. Our backyard is a tad different than our other home. 1 1/2 acres and 18 oak trees, so we have a lot to take care of, but we have a perfect spot that we have put the gourd rack, and now all we have to do is wait and pray.
I see that the smoke battle continues, and it is such a shame that the entire population is in jeopardy, and I pray it gets taken care of before too long.
Where do your friends live? We are about 7 miles north of the big city of Floresville, and loving it. Quite a change from San Antonio, and I must say, a precious change.
According to John, this may be a good week for martins to be coming, so I hope and pray we can see some. Best of luck to yaull and have a great day!!

Hi Mike,
I am beginning to get worried..I shouldn't I know but wow...it seems like everyone else is getting Martins except for me...We are already struggling with the S&S....they are such a pain.
Have a Blessed Day...I just might come over to see your Martins if I don't get some soon:)

Martin's Rule!!!!!!!!!
Sheryle, any time after five most of the kids are gone. Closer to six and the whole martin squadron should be visible assembling overhead.
S&S? My sparrow-trapping season commenced just today, two males and a female thus far, caught one after the other in the same Natureline gourd with a shimmed-down (to exclude martins) spring trapdoor entrance.
I watch which gourd the sparrows have adopted, and switch it out with the trapdoor Natureline. Most times I catch them within a few minutes, the sparrows apparently cannot easily tell the difference between one style of gourd and another, and went right in even though in both cases the original gourd was a WDC Excluder Supergourd.
No problem starlings yet, although hundreds roost in the area. Of course all our housing except for a few Carrols are SREH, which likely slows them down a bit.

Hi Sheryle,
Are you sure they aren't George and Gertrude???? Ha Ha I am getting so flustrated but I looked back on my calendar and in 2000 they were here on the 26 and 2001 it was the 23rd. I had to take my house down. The sparrows were driving me nuts. We put a trap up and I have my trusty daisy too,.
Hope you get bunches. Hope Holly does too.

Hi Meem,
Nope they are not Georg and Gertrude..HA HA....They are Velma and Fred...hee hee...
I was getting upset, too cuz it seemed like such a long time this year...I think the winter was roughter this year than last year.
Your right, we have had two sparrows that are just making go mad...they hide in the back and they seem to be living in the house....I am going to be getting rid of those sparrows..just when they are least expected...although we have to watch our neighbors in back to make sure they don't see us...darn it...
Three came back last night...and I am sure you will be getting yours very very soon.
Have a Great Day,
Sheryle

Hi
So glad that Velma and Fred stopped at your house. Hope they are still there. George didn't come. He sent his brother..... He was here last night and this am. Sure hope he comes back tonight. There were two others, but he couldn't convince them to stay.
I have accumulated a nasty pair of starlings since yesterday. I have the starling things on the house, but not on all the gourds. Along with my daisy, gonna get out the pellet.
Have a good one.
