All of you are getting martins. I haven't seen or heard one. I haven't seen a post from Holly either. You think ours are smarter and waiting for the cold weather to go away, are they have just passed me up? :-( They have been coming for so many years now.

Martin Colony History: First started in Gretna, La in 1969 with a small homemade house, have had martins ever since at 2 different homes in Texas

Meem, they will return if 1) they had babies & raised the successfully last year, and 2) if they survived the trip.

How large was your colony? The larger the colony, the better the chance that they will return.

Is it tree encroached? If your colony has too many trees, sparrows, starlings, snakes, owls, or hawks, then sometimes they do not return.

Chances are that they will return, as some people around here have not yet gotten their martins.

Hi Meem,

I checked out your profile and glanced at some headers of post from you last year. You had 13 pair, but you couldn't get them to go for crickets yet. So I'm assuming your colony isn't real old.

That being said, they'll be coming anyday.

Meem, Holly has moved to a new location and is trying to start a new coloney. I expect her to be on the forum someday soon.

Emil, I did. I had 13 pair last year. This will be my 13th year to have them. Bob, I have a tree, but it hasn't seem to bother them, in fact I have a pic. of one sitting on it last year before it got leaves, and they say Martins don't perch in trees.....
Hi Sheryle, Nice to hear from you. I couldn't remember your name and they say Holly hasn't been on. You live northwest of me at Helotes, Right?
Thanks to all. I put cedar chips in the gourds and house this eve. They say it is suppose to get real cold.
Talk to ya'll later, and keeping my fingers crossed.
