Hi Katy Texas Martin Lovers! I have my house up, clean and ready to go. I get all excited, go get the binoculars and it is only a grackle posing as a martin! Where are yall located? I am in Nottingham Country and have my house up and going for years. Seems they get later each year, maybe cause of the cold weather? Please give me a ray of hope!

Katylady. Are you sure they are later, (via good record keeping)? Or is your mind getting anxious, and seeming to be later. Most folks seem to report them earlier every subsequent year. CUL Lou

Martin Colony History: First started in Gretna, La in 1969 with a small homemade house, have had martins ever since at 2 different homes in Texas

I live between Katy & Richmond, about 7 miles SW of the end of Fry Road, and my martins were only a few days late. Right now there are about 25 martins here at my house. I am worried about next week, as it may be time to feed them...good luck to you for this season. I have been getting about 2 per day for the past week.

Hi Katylady,
I live on Westheimer Prkwy/fry rd. Got my first pair yesterday, they are about 2wks earlier than last year. There are a few people on this board from katy who have martins now, so keep looking up, they will be there before you know it
Good Luck

Hello katylady,
I'm near FM529 and Fry Rd. I have 2 pairs right now. They were 2 weeks earlier than average in coming back this year. I'm getting ready for supplemental feeding because it will be cold and rainy the next several days.
I'm a "nestcamaholic" Is 18 hours a day a bad thing? (I have 2 this year, luckily I have 2 eyes!)

Hi katylady,

I'm at Mason Rd and Westpark tollway. Mine arrived about a week earlier than last year, and at last look, I was up to 8. Good luck!

Hey KatyLady---hang on---they be coming...

was outside working on my grill and decided it was to dark to see...headed for the shop when I heard him/her talking to me...

it was so dark I could only see a dark spot, but I recognized that song...
he hasn't unpacked his bag yet, so he may be passing right on up to you.

then, again it is coctail time here in the retirement park so he may wait until tommorow....they are late this year...usually here on the 25th of Jan.

Hi KL, I am between Richmond and Katy right near Pecan Grove. I keep watching. I am new to the area and have two new houses set up. I saw a scout about mid-January. Seen a few, but not many as of late. I sure hope I can get a colony started here. Lots of Martin houses in the area. When should I expect a new colony to start up? I have had many colonies at my old home West of Brookshire.

To Katylady. I'm waiting too, had one a couple of weeks ago for a short while but then gone. Mine usually come on the 14th. Seems as though there are several of us pretty much in a north/south line from Sparky down to Emil. I'm near Clodine, a little east of the line like JeanS is. The birds are on the way !!! Mine too. *BW*
