I believe the lone female that showed up day before yesterday (wasn't able to observe things yesterday as I had hoped)may be the same one that I saw a few times during the day today circling the lake; then, about 15 minutes before dark, she zipped into my modified Trio and stayed for as long as I could observe her through the binoculars (til dark). Last year, I had a lone female show up on Feb 7th and stay for several days, then wasn't around for a few days(cold weather), then my other returning ASYs started showing up and one male paired off with what I think may have been her, but????? I'm hoping that even if she isn't one of my returnees, that she likes the set-up enough to stay. She's in good shape, so hopefully she'll be able to cope well with the forecast low temperatures for tonight and tomorrow night( mid 30s). It should be in the mid 50s during the day tomorrow and Sunday, then warm up considerably for a few days. There should be enough food around for her to stay healthy, but I'll watch closely.
I'm excited, even if she doesn't stay! The others shouldn't be too far behind.

Martin Colony History: Taking care of 11 active public colonies and trying to start two more in northwestern PA. Also attempting to restart another one in southwestern PA, in Collier Township's Hilltop Park. In 2017, not sure what happened but the ASY male returned and then a couple of weeks later he was gone. It could have been weather related. No other birds showed up. I had a starling nesting at the Public site that I had trouble getting rid of.
In 2018, we fledged 629 martins at all of the sites.

Congratulations on your female. Hope you have many more show up. Good luck this year. Bill

Thanks Bill. I had to run some errands this morning, so didn't get a chance to check things out. It was near freezing at daybreak, so if she stayed, she's probably tucked in until it warms up a bit.
Still several days early for my returnees. I'm hoping by the 21st or 22nd they'll start arriving.
Good luck to you this season.
