I've seen a starling sitting on one of my gourd porches and have aimed the BB gun in that direction, but he must be on to me. I went out to do a nest check today and as I was lowering the house, I found a light, pale blue egg below the gourd on the ground. It was still warm. The Martins have most of their housing/nests set up and I am just waiting on egg laying. Could this starling have carried an egg over to the Martin house to put in their nest? I am getting really worried about this starling....if I don't get him destroyed, he may ruin my entire colony. I can't sit out there from 0600-1400 due to work, but I should be having egg laying anytime. Anyone know where I can get a "hired gun".

trash can that bb gun and get you a pellet gun. Pellets fly straighter than BB's . IMO once BB's start slowing down the veer off one way or the other. On a budget ??? Wally world usually has the Remington .177 pump up for around 40 bucks. This gun is the same thing as a Crosman 2100. Get you a good scope at least 32MM's with adjustable objective (sportman guide has an excellent BSA air rifle scope for 39 bucks REAL hard to beat that one for the price) and site it in at 10 yards. use a pillow or several towels stacked up to rest the pellet rifle on. You should be able to hit bullseye 8 or of 10 times if you don't jerk or turn the scope adjustments the wrong way when you adjust it.

If that don't work get you a 20 gauge shotgun if you can shoot at your site. Just don't shoot him while he is on the house with the shotgun

RC,
You seem like a man with a plan. Thanks for the specifics. I have a pellet gun in the closet, but the thing is so warped it is a victory just to scare off, less hit, whatever I am aiming at. I think I will have to stop in my Wal-Mart this week now that I have some subbies at my site.

RC, do you have any business cards? I won't be doing any shooting for awhile. I'm having open shoulder surgery Thursday, so if I don't get him within the next few days.......well, we know what could happen. Thanks for the specifics and I think I will try to upgrade today or tomorrow.

If you don't want to pump up you can get a Benjamin Sheridan AS392T, which stand for AirSource. Airsource is a bottle of Co2 you screw on to the gun kind of like the paint guns. You get over 200 shots on the high powered setting tow bottles packs run about 10 bucks. This gun has two settings also. Pull back the bolt one click is the low setting (About 450 FPS) and pull all the way back to the second click for the high setting. 750 FPS. The gun is a .22 cal. pellet gun, that hits pretty hard will kill a squirrel at 20 yards.

This air rifle is in the mid to low price range for around 130 bucks depending on where you buy it. Shop on line if interested, there are several sites to browse. I got about 200 bucks in mine with a quality Bushnell scope I caught on sale at walmark. This gun is above the lower end pump-up and just under the expensive spring guns and PCP's which can be as high as several hundred dollars.

Anyway surf the net and see what out there in your price range and stlye of rifle you like. Rc
